Former DOJ Civil Division Litigator David Kim Joins Colombo & Hurd’s Federal Immigration Litigation Practice

Press Release

Colombo & Hurd , a leading U.S. immigration law firm serving high-skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors, announced that David Kim has joined the firm as Senior Litigation Counsel. He brings over a decade of federal litigation experience shaped by his service at the U.S. Department of Justice.

His arrival comes at a time when federal immigration litigation is rising nationwide. Families, investors, and high-skilled professionals are turning to the courts more often to challenge delayed or improper adjudications, shifting agency policies and changing enforcement priorities.

“David has spent years working on the kinds of cases that influence how immigration law is applied across the country,” said Carlos Colombo, Founding Partner of Colombo & Hurd. “His background analyzing federal agency actions, overseeing complex appellate matters, and litigating major constitutional and regulatory challenges strengthens our ability to protect clients when the stakes are highest.”

During his tenure in the DOJ’s Civil Division, Mr. Kim led constitutional and regulatory challenges involving federal agencies, including class actions, APA disputes, and major policy litigation. He managed appellate matters across multiple circuits, advising agencies including the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security.

Most recently as an Acting Assistant Director, he directed litigation strategy in high-stakes district court and appellate cases involving nationwide immigration policies, authored over a hundred dispositive motions and appellate briefs, argued before federal courts nationwide, and contributed to matters handled by the Office of the Solicitor General.

At Colombo & Hurd, Mr. Kim serves as Senior Litigation Counsel in the Federal Immigration Litigation practice, applying his experience in federal litigation, administrative law, and immigration policy to protect clients facing complex government action. His work includes challenging improper adjudications and reinforcing fairness in processes affecting individuals and employers navigating the U.S. immigration system.

Mr. Kim holds a J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a B.A. from Yale University. He is admitted to practice before multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals and is a member of the Illinois Bar.
